I got the bug to try a car build once again in 2021. I had this 2010 Tacoma Prerunner 2WD that I bought back in 2017. (2WD is OK for me. I wouldn't be rock climbing. I just want to point down a dirt trail and to have the ability to see where it goes...maybe kinda fast.) It was mechanically sound and pretty clean. It came as a stripped-down model, lacking even intermittent wipers and cruise control. I began by installing missing features, and upgrading the sound system. I then developed a plan of what the finished truck would be like. I spent months of research to determine the best components. Then I began making improvements. A components list with pictures is below.
The supercharger has given it much more horsepower. It started at 226 horsepower. I estimate it at about 330 HP at the flywheel now. (Magnuson says the supercharger gets 305. I added a cold air intake package and a cat-back 3" exhaust that each claim 15 more horsepower but I'll give them 15 together to be conservative.) The suspension is unbelievable in winding roads and it feels more like a sport car than a lifted truck. The brakes grab quick and hard when things suddenly slow down. The Mini Cooper seats are great on the long trips. Then there's the JVC based sound system with wireless CarPlay. I love it. I so enjoyed this truck!!
Unfortunately, life brings changes. I have a steadily deteriorating back condition that has made it impossible to get in and out of the Tacoma. And Kathy was having difficulty too. I had to sell it. It's now someone else's baby.
I replaced it with a 1999 Jaguar XJR.
