In 2020, I stepped out of the shower when a tile crack under my foot. I knew that was a bad sign and discovered a soaked floor under the cracked tile. We called Kevin Austin o assess what was needed. He proposed some changes that drastically improved our little master bathroom. The shower had leaked, and all subfloors and floor joists had to be replaced. Kevin did such a wonderful job for us.
In 2022, we had money to move to a newer house in a different neighborhood. We looked around town and always decided that our present home was better for us than anything we saw. Our sons, led by Adam, had done wonders to our backyard that couldn't be transferred to another house. The floorplan and large family room fit our family well. We decided to make our present home into our forever home. We moved out for several months while Delerio Construction did some updating, Above All Plumbing replaced our plumbing clear to the street, and Apex Valley Roofing re-roofed the place. I mention these contractors because of the excellent work they did.
The work began with replacing our corroded and leaking galvanized plumbing. Everything inside and outside, to the street, was replaced. We installed a tankless water heater with a recirculating pump that assures we have hot water instantly throughout the house. The sewer was left alone. They were amazingly fast and were in and out within a week. They did not have to worry about walls because Delerio would be working on them soon. The first time the sprinklers came on after the upgrade, the sprinklers sprayed right over the lawn and onto the fences. The pressure difference was fantastic. We could use both bathrooms and the dishwasher at the same time, all with instant hot water. We were in heaven.
Delerio took several months before starting. They ordered all the materials but didn't start until everything arrived. This was during COVID-19, and supply lines didn't work as they had in the past. We moved all the furniture into the patio, and we moved into a hotel. The master bath had already been updated. The guest bathroom needed work, with leaks and loose tiles. They gutted the bathroom but left the footprint the same. We got a new vanity. In the kitchen, we got new quartz countertops and replaced all the hardware in the cabinets. (Remember that the oak cabinets were custom-built for us when we moved in. They were still in excellent condition.) The carpeting and tile floors throughout the house were removed and replaced with LVT. The non-working fireplace was replaced with a gas-burning unit using a state subsidy. The ugly brick on the fireplace was replaced with a custom-designed facade. Then, the entire interior of our house was painted a blue, chosen by Kathy.
It took a bit longer than we expected to get the work done but it was so worth it.
