This morning, I had a thought on the importance of “being still”. “Being still” is not a new thought but it came to me with new importance. “Being still” refers to quiet time. Time to meditate, listen to God and be at peace with nature and its eternal laws. We all have many roles in life and limited time to devote to them. We can get caught up in public, career, family, and personal duties, and then add to it personal interests (cars?). All of these can be important and good, but we can also miss the real point of life without taking time to be still. Even scripture study, and study of the words of prophets and church leaders can become just checklist items. Even prayer can become just another item to be checked off the list. Finding a quiet place and time daily to sit and listen and feel enables our studies to change us and energizes our prayers. For me, quiet time is at my desk in the early hours of morning. It often includes writing my quiet time thoughts down, possibly on my website, so they stay with me. For Kathy, it’s her time by the koi pond a bit later in her day. But for me the message is clearly to not let my to do list keep me from being still.
